Washington State SHRM Receives Prestigious SHRM Award for Advancing the HR Profession

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) recently awarded Washington State SHRM its prestigious EXCEL Platinum Award for the State Council’s accomplishments in 2016.

The award aligns individual chapter and state council activities with SHRM’s aspirations for the HR profession. The award recognizes accomplishments and strategic activities and initiatives that enhance the human resources profession.

“Advancing the human resources profession is a daily mission at SHRM and this State Council’s outstanding work this year contributed significantly to that goal,” said Henry G. (Hank) Jackson, president and CEO of SHRM. “Recipients of this prestigious award are those who show a strong commitment to advancing the HR profession through service to the community, local networking, and professional development activities.”

The EXCEL award can be earned at four levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum, and each level has a prescribed set of requirements and accomplishments that must be met. Washington State SHRM will receive recognition in SHRM publications and at conferences, a logo to display on their website and information to share with their members about the significance of this award.

Washington State SHRM is committed to advancing the HR profession and supporting HR professionals in Washington State. Below are just a few of the many successful initiatives lead by Washington State SHRM in 2016.

Enhancing the SHRM Community: Washington State SHRM held our first ever Leadership Boot Camp on March 17, 2016 at the Bellevue Sheraton, with 34 first time attendees from 12 of the 15 Washington State Chapters. The purpose of this historic event was to help new Volunteer Leaders better understand their role and the resources available to them through the sharing of best practices and networking.

Advancing the HR Profession: We were engaged many SHRM members across the state in serving veterans and underserved communities. We increased awareness in the community and with business leaders regarding diversity and inclusion issues, provided resources and best practices regarding recruiting, and shared policies on how to implement a diverse workforce.

Advancing the HR Profession: Washington State SHRM continued its work with the Performance Skills Coalition by educating HR professionals about the importance of “soft skills” and providing them with the 2016 Washington State SHRM Soft Skills Toolkit which was designed to assist HR professionals in addressing soft skills needs in the workplace.
